Recovery of Armero Mill

The City Council is studying the recovery of Armero Mill, one of the most characteristic hydraulic constructions in the Huerta, within the Historic Site of Monteagudo and Cabezo de Torres.

Within the Special Plan for the Protection of the Historic Site of Monteagudo and Cabezo de Torres, the City Council acquired the Armero Mill to preserve it, rehabilitate it and return this space to Murcian citizens.

It stands out not only for the mill used in the manufacturing of paprika, but also two remains of the Arab Wall and a Garden of municipal ownership of about 5,000 square metres.

Once the remains have been transferred to the City Council, owned by the Armero family, a rehabilitationproject will be carried out, based on archaeological and historical studies that will also include the complex as a whole, made up of the municipally owned garden and the remains of the Arab wall.

The acquisition of this mill joins other projects for the rehabilitation and conservation of the Huerta heritage such as the Amor mill, the Batán mill, the Pólvora mill, the Torre Falcón House, and other hydraulic infrastructures.

Historical and industrial heritage complex

The City Council recovers a space for the Murcian people, whilst also highlighting a typical “Huerta” landscape and the territorial and cultural essence of Murcia.

In addition to the building and warehouses, various pieces of machinery and other elements from the era are included.Different pieces have been recovered, such as five grinding stops, with their corresponding stones, hopper, dust covers and hydraulic machinery, two electric mills, a stone, and an electric motor.

It also includes furniture, documents, product packaging, vintage photographs, machinery such as scales, invoices, typewriters, traveller's briefcase, sacks, laundry material, jars, press and other items of the era, considered intangible ethnographic movable heritage. relatedto the production and packaging of paprika in Murcia’s Huerta.
