Murcia City Museum
The City Museum is located in a privileged place next to the Agustinas Convent, the Bullfighting Museum, the Salzillo Museum, the Regional Centre for Handicrafts and the Salitre Garden, and very close to the Pasos de Santiago Church, the Church of San Miguel and San Esteban Palace. It is a very lively area, close to the commercial area of Murcia and its historic centre, in which the neighbourhood atmosphere is still preserved. In fact, it is located between the old neighbourhoods of San Antón and San Andrés and very closeto thepopular streets of Santa Teresa, San Nicolás and Sagasta.
The City Museum's main objective is the dissemination of Murcia's cultural heritage through a journey through history, tangible and intangible heritage, art, crafts and ethnography in its most varied manifestations. Original pieces, models and reproductions are distributed throughout its rooms in a chronological manner and show the hallmarks of the city and its municipal area.
The City Museum aims to be the first step towards a deeper knowledge of Murcia, inviting visitors to walk through the city’s streets and squares, to contemplate its monuments and museums and to discover all its heritage and cultural wealth.
The different rooms and units of the City Museum are spread across its three floors. In addition, the museum opens at the back to a small courtyard, adjacent to the Hispano-Muslim allotment which is irrigated by the waters of the Caravija canal.
Murcia City Museum is an accessible museum: it has an elevator, a ramp, a toilet adapted for the physically disabled, and information in 'Braille' for the blind.
